Just got an email saying my mixer has shipped…not 45 days from the order date, not January 29th, but today. Don’t know what is going on in the weird time vortex over there, but I don’t care since I get my mixer soon!! Can’t wait to test it out on some yummy holiday treats 🙂

Update to the upgrade

I got an update on my mixer – estimated shipping date of January 29th!!! That is way more than 45 days. So, I guess this is going to be closer to a birthday present to myself than a Christmas present…

Upgrade me

I have a KitchenAid Classic stand mixer that I got 6 years ago for less than $200 at one of those huge sales Kohl’s has at Christmas time. It has worked great for the past six years, in fact it still works mostly fine, but I think I’m on my way to breaking it. I make bread 3 or 4 times a month, plus a fair amount of pasta and it seems to struggle with mixing sometimes. Mostly I make batter bread, which doesn’t need to be kneaded, but every now and then I like to make “real” bread. And since I hate, hate, hate kneading bread by hand, I use the mixer to do it and that means putting it on a pretty high speed for a few minutes. And do that makes it whirr and whine terribly and it shakes so much that I have to watch it to make sure it doesn’t walk itself off of the counter. Add to this the fact that I’ve asked for the meat grinding attachment for Christmas, and that pushed me to decide it is time for an upgrade. And after some research decided to go all out and this morning I ordered this:

The KitchenAid Professional 600, 6 quart, 575 watt, bowl lift stand mixer in cobalt blue! I had a really hard time deciding between tangerine, green apple and cobalt, but think I’ll never get tired of the blue. The only problem is that it is on back order and the estimated shipping date is 45 days from today – so I won’t get to play with it till probably sometime in January 😦

Since I started this morning workout thing, I’ve been leaving the house between 15 and 20 minutes after my alarm goes off. This morning, on the way to the gym I had to stop to get gas. I didn’t want to do it – it is so freakin’ cold in the morning, but I didn’t stop last night, and the gas stations between the gym and the office always seem to be packed by the time I’m driving by, so I needed to stop at one by my house.

So, I swipe my credit card, pump the gas, grab my receipt and head off to the gym. At some point I throw my credit card into my purse…I think…I mean, I must have…that is what I always do. But at lunch I can’t find it in my purse, which I end up dumping out, twice. Or in my car, which I search in two different parking lots. Grasping at straws, I call the gym, it isn’t there. Crap.

I go over every step of getting gas this morning. I definitely had the card, because I remember swiping it to pay at the pump. But after that, nothing, no recollection at all of doing anything with the card and only the vaguest memories of driving to the gym.

I think this is why mornings at the gym work so well for me – I’m on auto-pilot until about halfway through the workout. But obviously, it isn’t working so well for me in the “stuff I need to be awake for” category.

Oh well, new card gets here Saturday.
